Ben started his A-Levels averaging C and D grades in Economics. He knew the content, but struggled to translate it into high-scoring exam answers, particularly when it came to essay structure and building clear chains of analysis. Through weekly sessions focused on exam technique, structured essay planning, and analysing model answers, Ben developed both deeper subject understanding and a disciplined approach to writing.
By the end of his AS Levels, he was achieving A* grades on essays, a four-grade improvement that transformed both his results and his confidence.

When Ben came to More Than Just Tuition at the start of his A Levels, he was struggling to understand key content and apply it effectively in essays.
Like many students, he knew the material in isolation but found it difficult to build clear chains of analysis, structure high-level arguments, and write answers that met top mark scheme criteria. At the time, he was working at a C grade and was determined to improve.
Our approach was to focus on developing both a deep understanding of the content and strong exam technique. In our sessions, we broke down complex topics into clear, manageable concepts and practised structured essay planning every week so that ideas were organised and purposeful. We worked carefully on building strong chains of analysis and analysed model answers to understand exactly what examiners reward at the highest level. By the end of his AS levels Ben was achieving A* grades on essays.

When I started tutoring, I was averaging Cs and Ds. My most recent exam I got back last week, I got an A*. The biggest improvement has honestly been with essay structuring. I knew some of the content I wanted to include, but I didn't know how to properly formulate my answers and score a Level 5 response. Now I actually think like an economist. I'd definitely say tutoring is worth it, having someone walk you through questions who has the knowledge and has proven it makes a real difference.
